A Curly Technique

Not only are crocheted curly cues enjoyable, but they are also highly versatile. You can incorporate a crocheted curly cue into anything you can think of. So, this month's feature is not a stitch, but a technique that is perfect for adding extra flair to your holiday projects.

HOW DO YOU CURL IT UP?.....

  • plush

  • ornaments

  • bookmarks

  • shoe accessories

  • gifts, etc

And of course let us know in the comments what you think of the crocheted curly cue.

Another Yummy Throw Back

Like November's post show casing the Fall-fetti placemat pattern I am doing another great holiday throw-back to the Curly Cue Candy Cane Ornament. You'll have so much fun doing this technique that you'll have your whole neighborhood decked out in festive candy canes, but first I always like a little history with my creativity.

Adding Sweetness to the Season

Take a moment to appreciate the rich history and symbolism woven into this beloved holiday treat. Whether enjoying them as a sweet snack or incorporating them into your decorations, candy canes bring a touch of magic and tradition to the festive celebrations.

Dating back to around 1900, the candy cane took on its distinctive shape inspired by the curved staff commonly carried by shepherds. However, it wasn't until later that the candy cane received its red stripes and peppermint flavor, evolving into the familiar treat we know and love today.

Symbolism in Every Stripe Delving deeper into the lore, Christians have ascribed symbolic meanings to the candy cane's design. The red stripes are believed to represent the blood shed by Jesus on the cross, while the peppermint flavoring is said to symbolize the hyssop plant referenced in Biblical purification rituals. This hidden symbolism adds an extra layer of depth and meaning to the simple confection.

Crafting a Sweet Tradition As we approach the festive season, why not add a personal touch to your decorations with a charming Candy Cane Curly Cue Ornament? This delightful crocheted ornament captures the whimsy of the candy cane while offering a fun and creative activity for all skill levels. To get started, follow the pattern below:
